Writing Genre #2: Research Proposal (Inquiry-based essay)

I was curious about two questions from my research Topic Reflection. Those are: How do the five pillars of Islam strengthen the Muslim’s faith? And the second question is what Muslims believe in angels and How the Quran analyzes the 8 angles? For me, it was easy to choose only one question to write about because I need a counterclaim and for the first question about the five pillars there are no counterclaims because it’s fact for every Muslim and no other religion has similarities such as the five pillars of Islam. For the second question, what was interesting is to talk about angels that we can’t see but there is a belief based on religious perspective around the world. I researched my counterclaim for the second question before I decided to present the question as a proposal: what Muslims believe about angels and How the Quran analyzes the 8 angles?
I plan to talk about each angle for each paragraph with evidence from the Quran and from some Islamic books. Additionally, I will research web articles to get Muslim’s perspectives on the research question so I can narrow it down deeper. I won’t learn about all the important angles in Islam and about them. My research question is going to answer mostly about what the Quran talks about Angles like their duties from Allah, and their interaction with humans, etc. For my counterclaim, I am gonna talk about what Hinduism believes about the concept of angels. Something that interests me about this question is that from my childhood I have learned that angels are the ones who communicate Allah’s messages to humans. I heard a lot of stories about it. I am learning to read the Quran and angels are mentioned in the Quran like 88 times. As human beings, angels are part of our life, at least Muslims believe that. Moreover, it is relevant to social justice because every Muslim has the right to know what Quran says talks about everything that can be seen and unseen. There is a saying by Margaret Fuller “If you have the knowledge, let others light their candles in it”. Additionally, it counts as a good deed in Islam if you have knowledge about the Quran share it with others equally to enlighten them about Allah’s creation.
I started doing my research but it’s not completed yet. I have a video about my counterclaim: what other religious beliefs about angels? I decided to finish my first source by 10/20, then the second one by 10/23, the third one by 10/25, and the fourth one by 10/26. However, I might take more time depending on the sources.
My concept is to gather information about Islam’s belief about Angels to acknowledge me most importantly and also to inform my audience of Muslims. The people who want to please Allah by following, reading, and understanding the Quran, but can’t catch all the information from the Quran because of difficulty understanding the Arabic language, etc. Moreover, I choose to inform those people who want to learn about angels’ importance in Islam through my research. I was want to inform non- Muslims who believe in angels differently than Islam. Since my idea is to inform my audience about the research question I decided to do an informative essay.
For a model essay, I liked “My Undergraduate Experience ” by an unknown author. It’s a
short essay but I like the structure. It’s really simple and the author is talking about his/her
experience during college. This is an example of an informative essay. For now, I decided
to structure my essay like this one.
