Writing Genre #3: Report on Research in Progress
My research question is: What do Muslims believe about angels and How the Quran analyzes the 8 angles?
First Source: https://www.whyislam.org/islam/belief-in-angels/
– I found an article “Belief in Angels” which talks or answers several questions that I had in my mind to talk about in my essay. Does this source talk about what angels are created from? How many angels are there? What do angels do or why they were created? What are angelic abilities? And last but not least some important angels in Islam. This article basically talks about Islamic beliefs on angels. It’s the perfect source for me to use for my essay. I found this source by searching the keywords on google“Muslims Believes in Angel Article”. The website provides important information about Islam and the website is called Why Islam.org. It’s a credible source because they use evidence from the Quran to prove their statement.
– So for I choose some angels from the Quran that are important in Islam and they are: Jibrael, Mikael, Israfil, and Azrael. Now I am looking for the other four.
Second Source: The Quran (Holy Islamic Book)
– I choose the Quran as my scholarly source, therefore I am looking for evidence about these angels. The Quran, holy Islamic book is a scholarly source and it’s credible because t.I found some verses from the Quran about angel Jibrael. Here are some of them :
– (2:98)
– Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and His messengers and Gabriel and Michael – then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.
– (66:4)
– َوإِْنتَظَاھََرا َعلَْیِھفَإِ َّن َّاللهَھَُو َمْوَلاهُ َوِجْبِریُل َو َصالُِحاْلُمْؤِمنِیَن
– If you two [wives] repent to Allah, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him – then indeed Allah is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants.
Third Source: https://www.learnreligions.com/guardian-angels-in-hinduism-124346
– The third source is called “ Guardian Angels in Hinduism.” It’s a credible source because the author is Whitney Hopler who is a religion expert, and she is the author of the nonfiction book “Wake Up to Wonder.” Additionally, the author worked at the Times Community Newspapers as a religion editor. She has experience in writing religious articles. This article talks about Hinduism only mostly believing in guardian angels. Hindus pray to guardian angels like their other gods. From this source, I can write about my counterpoint about different religions’ beliefs on angels. I would be able to answer What Hinduism beliefs about guardian angels?
Forth source: https://www.learnreligions.com/angels-of-the-bhagavad-gita-124013
– My fourth source is about my counterclaim, angels in Hinduism. The article is called, “Hindu Angels of the Bhagavad Gita.” This is a credible source because the author is Whitney Hopler and I talked about her background in the third source explanation. The author is a religion writer on Learn Religions online website. In this article, I found information like angels in Hinduism from the main sacred text Bhagavad Gita. I want to use sources 3 and 4 together to combine similar information and connect with the new ones to provide my counterclaim.
Fifth source: https://www.learnreligions.com/islam-which-angels-carry-gods-throne-124067
– This one talks about angels in Islam. The source is credible because the author is Whitney Hopler and I talked about her background before. The author is a religion expert and writes about religion on Learn Religions online website. This article contains the same information as my first source. There is some different information such as four different Hamalat al-Arsh angels and they were explained as having features like a lion, human, bull, and eagle. Additionally, it talks about one day of judgment the Hamalat al-Arsh angels will join other angels to carry Allah’s throne.
– I am not sure about using this source because it contains similar information as the first one. Then new information occurs which I don’t get because I never heard of anything like that before even I learn about angels from Muslim people.
Sixth Source: https://www.learnreligions.com/angels-in-islam-2004030
– This article is called, “The Existence of Angels in Islam.” It’s a credible source because the author Huda is an Islamic expert who writes articles on Lear Religions website. She also wrote a book, “The Everything Understanding Islam Book: A Complete and Easy to Read Guide to Muslim Beliefs, Practices, Traditions, and Culture.” Additionally, the author is a teacher and teaches kids and students in schools. Another thing is that the article’s information is cited from the Quran.
– This articles have similar information to my other sources like source 1&5, but it talks about what Muslims don’t believe about angels specifically? And it’s something new to talk about. I can use this information in my counterclaim as a comparison for the counterpoint. Furthermore, It provides me with information about Angels in human form and I want to use this information when I am writing about Angel’s duty in my essay.
– Finally, this is what I have done so far. My next step would be to look for more information about the 8 angels from hadith ( Islamic guidance that is Quoted by Prophet Muhammad (SAW)). I want to find out Prophet Muhammad(SAW) experience with Angel or what he talked about as an angel with his companions?
