The Final Reflection
Now, at the end of this semester, I think of the moments when I started to do new assignments. Every time I was worried about how I am going to start? What grade will I receive and etc? Now, I see my writing skills leveled up as I did various assignments while practicing the course learning outcomes. From the beginning to end I used rhetorical terms in every assignment whether it’s about analyzing other sources or talking about my own researched question. One of the rhetorical terms that I have used throughout the semester was the purpose. In the source-based essay, I identified the author’s purpose for each source and these rhetorical terms didn’t just help me to understand the source it also helps the reader to know the main point or the reason behind the source. In the inquiry-based essay, I talked about my tone and purpose to my audience, so they can know if the writing context is about informing, giving awareness, or comparing and contrasting negative and positive aspects of the research topic. The tone gives the reader what the author is feeling about the topic. Most of the time tone helps the reader to understand the purpose. These rhetorical terms assist me to provide more knowledge in an understandable way to my audience.
Moreover, I used another rhetorical term which was genre and medium. Through this term, I can actually get more audience attention. For example in composition in genre assignment, I use social media and articles to inform my audience about my research topic. Genre and medium help to decide what information is more important and what amount of information should I provide to get my audience’s attention. In the source-based essay, I mostly choose articles to analyze because articles give me more context and evidence in more depth rather.
Additionally, there are more rhetorical terms that I have used author and audience, rhetorical situations and etc. These rhetorical terms enhanced my writing skills. Next year in other classes even if it’s not English class I can use these terms to analyze an article through tone, purpose, author’s credibility, and much more. Furthermore, I can make my writing more creative through genre, medium, stance, and language choice. It won’t just help me in college also in my personal life because I love to write poetry and these rhetorical terms are a great way to get to the next stage of my poetry writing. I learned something new and something new always makes something unique.
