Letter of Introduction

During this semester I have dealt with several course outcomes such as Exploring and analyzing, writing and reading, a variety of genres, and rhetorical situations. This outcome is meaningful to me because I ranked higher as I applied this outcome during this semester and also later throughout the college year I can use this experience to develop my further score in academic subjects. I did a composition in two genres assignment about inquiry-based essay topics where I explore various genres. During the writing process, I had to analyze the main message, the purpose, the conflict, the conclusion, and identify my audience. For this assignment, I came up with two genres and it was an Article and social media post. For this genre, I analyzed my topic statement from the inquiry-based research essay “According to the Quran, Muslims believe that angels are the ones who follow Allah’s command, angels are the ones who communicate Allah’s messages to humans, each angel was created for different duties, and they also believe that there are only 4 archangels angels who are the most important ones: Jibril, Mikael, Israfil, and Azrael.” Then I analyzed my audience for this genre, “My audiences are Muslims and non-muslims who belives in angels but differently than Muslims.” Then my purpose for this genre is, “ to inform humans about Muslims’ belief in angels because angels are mentioned in the Quran like 88 times. As human beings, angels are part of our life, at least Muslims believe that. Moreover, it is relevant to social justice because every Muslim has the right to know what Quran talks about everything that can be seen and unseen. Additionally, it counts as a good deed in Islam if you have knowledge about the Quran share it, with believers and others equally to enlighten them about Allah’s creation.”
Moreover, I applied rhetorical analysis of my source article and its rhetorical situation, author, audience, tone, purpose, genre, medium, stance, and language–as a way to mimic these aspects in the essay. My inquiry-based research essay question is, “What do Muslims believe about angels and How the Quran analyzes the 8 angles?” In this essay, I have dealt with another outcome which is to locate research sources in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias. My primary source was the Quran that I used to get information for my research question. I use surahs and verses as evidence. In the second paragraph, I used evidence from the Quran Surah Al Tahrim 66:6, “O believers! Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, overseen by formidable and severe angels, who never disobey whatever Allah orders—always doing as commanded.” Then I use various sources that are secondary such as articles from Learn Religions website, then videos from youtube for my counterclaim. One of the secondary sources that I used was, “Angels in Islam: Hamalat Al-Arsh.” from here I use evidence for my claim “Muslims view Michael as an angel of mercy and believe that God has assigned Michael to reward righteous people for the good they do during their earthly lifetimes. God also charges Michael with sending rain, thunder, and lightning to the Earth, according to Islam.” Then I restarted in my own words and more depth what this line means how it emphasizes my claim.
Additionally, the next course learning outcome that I used was Recognizing and practicing key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations. During this source-based essay, I practice rhetorical terms such as author, audience, tone, purpose genre, medium, stance, and language. In the source-based essay, I used one primary source and three secondary sources online. For each source, I had to identify an answer Who is the author of this piece? Is this author credible? Why? Who is the author’s audience, and how do you know? What is the author’s tone, and how do you know? What is the purpose of the piece, and how do you know? What is the genre? What are the features of this genre? What medium is used to communicate? Are there other media available for this same piece? For example in the source-based essay where I analyze and identified the tone, author, and audience. The primary source “Violence against Women in India: Is Empowerment a Protective Factor?” The author of this article is Leela Visaria who is very credible because she published her work on a reliable source which is JSTOR. It is obvious that the audience is focused on citizens of India, triggering men and sympathizing with women who are constantly being victims of violence. I believe that the author is trying to imply how women’s empowerment can potentially subdue the violence which they face on a daily basis. The Indian citizens mostly the women are hopeless, and desperately seeking out help against their husband’s brutality.
Overall, I practice these learning outcomes throughout this semester as I explore various assignments. Each learning outcome taught me a better way of writing and I developed and changed my thought at writing skills such as credible authors sources, rhetorical terms, and analyzing practicing with genres and rhetorical situations.
